The National Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses of Canada has published the First Edition of PeriAnesthesia Nursing Standards for Practice as the recommended resource for all perianesthesia nurses of Canada to use in their practice.

The Standards for Practice are not static, but are subject to constant revision as practices and knowledge change through research.  The Standards Committee is working diligently on an ongoing basis to update and revise these standards to ensure that the most current information is available and gold standard patient care can be delivered by all nurses in this area of specialty.

To ensure that you are delivering best patient care, please obtain your own copy for yourself or for your place of work to use as your resource. Please look under "Standards" at the top of this page to learn more about the content of the Standards.  Order Forms are also available in English and in French for your convenience.

If you ascertain that your institution's policies differ at all from the Standards for Practice, please note that these policies take precedence over the Standards and they must be followed first.  Provincial standards also supersede the National Standards for Practice.  International Standards do not supersede the Canadian standards for practice.

For more information regarding the Standards for Practice, or to order your own copy, please review the information under "Standards" at the top of this page.
