Saskatchewan’s perianesthesia nursing colleagues first began discussions to form a special interest group in 1998. PANGS' request to be recognized as a Professional Practice Group was approved by the SRNA late in 2002 and the PeriAnesthesia Nurses’ Group of Saskatchewan (PANGS) was officially formed in 2003.
PANGS objectives are:
-
to promote high standards for perianesthesia nursing;
-
to represent Saskatchewan Perianesthesia nurses locally and nationally and to support the objectives of NAPANc;
-
to identify needs and to promote continuing education and research in perianesthesia nursing;
-
to share knowledge and issues about matters relating to perianesthesia settings
-
to promote specialty certification.
PANGS hosted NAPANc’s Annual Meeting and Conference in 2005 which was held in Saskatoon.
PANGS holds an annual general meeting and conference each fall as well as quarterly conference call meetings. Every other year PANGS partners with SORNG (Saskatchewan Operating Room Nurses Group) and holds a two day conference. PANGS members receive reduced registration fees to attend the conferences. PANGS 2009 Annual Meeting and fall conference will be held in Prince Albert . PANGS assists members with registration fees to attend NAPANc ‘s Annual Meeting and Conference dependent on funds available. Information regarding PANGS activities and contacts are posted on the SRNA website.
Membership and interest has gradually increased each year and PANGS currently has 61 members.
